I am a documentary filmmaker with a focus on art and artists. My first film, Maynard Dixon Art and Spirit, continues to be an incredible adventure. The positive response has been overwhelming.
I produced the film because I wanted to bring Dixon's remarkable art to as large an audience as I could reach. That presented challenges to me as a first time filmmaker. I spent six years gathering as much information as I could about Dixon.
Narrowing all of that into a 63-minute film was a herculean task for myself and editor, Elen Carysfort. Many details and precious interviews were cut. I received indispensible advice and guidance from Maynard Dixon's sons, Daniel and John. They both participated in the final narration script, and convinced me that I had way too many details. "Let the art speak for itself." said Daniel. John reminded me that his Dad's later paintings were so great, "because he eliminated the details, making those simpler compositions his most powerful."I heeded their advice.
We are currently screening at museums & film festivals and have recently begun international distribution.
